Most of society believes it. It is in television commercials, books,
magazines, schools, and even some churches. What is it? Evolution.
Evolution
Evolution was taught in the public schools I attended and I see it in
every part of our world today. Even some churches accept the idea of
theistic evolution: the theory that God created the matter in the
universe and then let things evolve over millions or billions of years.
Scientists seem to have a lot of information supporting evolution. Many
people believe it. So why should Christians reject the theories of
evolution, even theist evolution?
God's Word
The first and best reason for us to reject evolution is that the Bible
tells us that God created the world in six days. It did not take
millions (billions!) of years for people to evolve. God made Adam and
Eve on the sixth day and "God saw all that he had made, and it was very
good" (Genesis 1:31). They were not like the cave-people you see in
movies that grunt and say things like, "Fire...; good." They were
not less intelligent than us. But they were "very good."
A Flaw
The Bible is enough to convince us that God created the world without
evolution, but what about that friend who doesn't believe the Bible is
always true? While we cannot prove to our unbelieving friends that
creation is true, we can show them some flaws in evolutionary theory.
I used to work for a Navy research lab. I tested model submarines and
predicted how fast the real submarine would go. We pulled the models
through the water, put them in water tunnels, and used computer
simulations to test the designs. We used lots of math and science. And
we usually predicted the actual speed accurately. The only reason we
were even close is that engineers spent many years comparing predictions
and actual speeds and then fine tuning the prediction procedure.
Have scientists done this with evolutionary science? They date a fossil
and say it is 127 million years old. Has anyone ever verified that
result by comparing it with a fossil known to be 127 million years old?
Of course not. Recorded history only goes back a few thousand years. No
one has held on to something for a million years and then dated it to
see how well the procedure works. This is one of many flaws with
evolutionary theory. It is based on assumptions and guesses.
God's Love
However, Christians have a sure thing in God's Word. God is always right
and always keeps his promises. He sent Jesus Christ to save us from
eternal punishment in hell. We can tell our friends that they are not
the result of the random processes of evolution, but they are people
whom God loved enough to die for.
