A few years ago I wrote a poem expressing my gratefulness to God for helping me fight my battle with bulimia and guiding me through a spiritually enlightening recovery process. It reads:

Bulimia has brought me so much misery and pain
Frustration and burdens of guilt and shame
Yet I praise God for working it into his plan
For years I questioned but I finally understand
Recovery has shaped me into someone I'm glad I have become
Now I'm in touch with true emotions that once were numb
My eating disorder taught me many lessons about life
I learned compassion and ways to overcome strife
I know who I am, my future goals and dreams
I realize that things aren't always as they seem
I'm thankful for the suffering that made me strong and wise
I've discovered the truth so now I can disregard the lies
I marvel at how patient and loving God must be
For bulimia is the best gift he's ever given me

Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose."
