Respectfully Yours
READ: Luke 11:1-13
Imagine you see your favorite movie star. Amazingly, he or she is alone. You walk over to the star, introduce yourself, and shower him or her with compliments. You are excited the whole time, yet you are respectful.
This situation can be compared to what your prayer life should be like. Seeing the movie star is like seeing how God works in your life or how you would like him to. You should immediately assume an attitude of respect for our God. Luke 11:3 says, “Father, hallowed be your name.”
In prayer we should first praise God for who He is. When you ask for an autograph, it’s much like petitioning God for your wants or needs. The man outside the door in verses 5-9 is a comparison to you being persistent in your prayer life. The Lord will answer you in some way. Luke 11:13 says, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
Prayer is one of the closest contacts we as Christians have to our Lord. We must all take advantage of it in a respectful, persistent manner.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What is your attitude when you pray? How often do you pray? What things can you do to improve your prayer life?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask the Lord to give you a greater reverence for Him in prayer and in life. Tell the Lord what a great God He is. Thank the Lord for all of the many gifts and talents He has given you which you may take for granted.
