Sunday

READAmos 8:4-7

Sometimes we feel we don’t need to go to church every Sunday.  I know that sometimes I don’t always feel like going to church on Sunday, or I work instead of going to church.  However, we really shouldn’t think of it as a burden, rather an opportunity to learn, witness, and to praise.

Charlie and George were talking about work.  Charlie said he was happy that his work had him scheduled to work all day Saturday and Sunday.  George said to him, “What about church?”

Charlie’s response was, “One day won’t matter, and I’m going to church next Sunday anyway.”

The Lord says in Amos 8:4-7, “The Lord was sworn by the Pride of Jacob: I will never forget anything they have done.”  Because of what the Lord says here, maybe we should take our religion and faith a little more seriously.

So, the next time you think it doesn’t matter whether you go to church or not, remember, it really does.  It is a chance to grow in your faith, learn more, and a chance to praise the Lord.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Do we sometimes neglect to worship in order to make extra income on overtime pay?  Do we go to church reluctantly or participate in public worship half-heartedly?  Do we couple such disrespect for the Lord with a lack of concern for our needy fellow man?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Pray that we do not put money before God.  Ask God to forgive our sins.  Pray to God to remind us that money doesn’t matter after we’re in our heavenly home.
