Fear the Lord
READ: Deuteronomy 10:12-22
Paul and Jim were having a discussion about faith. Jim, who was not a Christian, told Paul that he was having trouble choosing which religion is right for him. Jim kept asking Paul over and over why he believed in God and if there really was a God. Paul kept telling Jim the obvious answer, “Of course there is a God. Just look at everything around you.” He kept telling Jim to come to church with him and hear about his awesome God that has created everything.
Sometimes we, too, are like Jim, asking ourselves if there really is a God. God tells us in Deuteronomy 10:20 “Fear the Lord your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name.” This tells us there is a God and that we should obey Him out of love and respect. Respect today should include avoiding the careless use of God’s name every time we turn around. If He is our God, our fear of respect will include every use of His name!
Talk about God, and really mean what you are saying!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What do you do when you have doubts about your faith? How do you know there is a God? In what ways does God reassure you that He is with you at all times? How can our speech better reflect our relationship with Him?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for those who are having doubts. Pray for atheists who are struggling with the realization that there is a God. Thank God for serving and rewarding us.
