Keeping Your Eyes On the Prize

READColossians 3:1-11

Chris is on the wrestling team.  He must practice very hard every day for several hours.  He also must maintain a strict diet to keep his weight from varying.  Chris is very competitive, and winning is very important to him.  However, there are times when he feels lazy.  Sometimes he’d like to skip practice, or pig-out.  When he feels this way, it helps him to remember that even though he has it hard now, the end result—winning—will be worth all the hard work.

We are no different from Chris.  We, too, have to give up things that the world might see as fun, but we know is sinful.  It’s not easy, but if we remember that our prize is eternal life in heaven with our Savior, we can make it through.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What things do we have to give up for our faith?  Do we always give these things up happily?  Why not?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God for strength to do what is right.  Ask Him to help us remember the “prize.”
