They Just Don't Get It
READ: Luke 2:41-52
How often have many of us as teenagers thought that out parents just don’t understand us? To us, our parents are living in the past and just can’t fathom the way that things are today. This is not a totally new idea. Even our own parents, who don’t understand us, weren’t understood by their parents.
In Luke 2:41-52, we see that even Jesus faced the same problem. He was busy in the temple and thought that Mary and Joseph would surely realize that He would be in His Father’s house. Yet, they did not understand. They thought that something had happened to Him and were angry when they found Him.
Yet, Jesus did not get angry with His parents for not understanding. He realized that they were sinful people and cannot fully understand everything in this world.
We need to take the same approach to our parents and realize that they aren’t always going to understand us, so we need to be understanding of their situation and realize that they, much like ourselves, are not perfect.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do we often respond when our parents are wrong? How would Jesus have responded? How can we change our response to be more like Christ?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that the Lord would give us the patience we need. Ask that God would forgive you for not being more patient when we should be. Thank God for providing you with people who usually understand you and are there for you.
