Is It Really Worth It

READ:  Luke 16:19-31

One day Rick was talking to Joe.  Rick talked about a job he got and how he could save now for this car he wanted.  Weeks later he still had the job and things seemed great, but Rick hasn’t been in church.  Rick says that the job is helping him bring in the money and that there is not time for church.  “I miss you guys, but the money I would be losing if I were with you…well, you understand, right?”

“Rick, I understand that you have cut the most important thing out of your life.  That car won’t get you anywhere near where you should be focused on getting.  Am I right?”

Like most of us at some point in our lives, Rick lost his focus.  He became focused on earthly possessions and forgot what was important.  His car isn’t going to get him into heaven.  Faith is the only thing that will get us there.  In Luke 16:25 it says, “Remember that in your lifetime you received good things while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.”

Is being happy without God during this short time we have on earth worth an eternity of pain in hell with Satan?

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What are some of the things in our lives that make us to lose our focus?  What makes them so important that we forget about God?  What should we do when we’ve strayed off the path to heaven?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Pray for those people in your life whom you’ve seen fall astray.  Give thanks to God for His Word to rely on for help.  Ask God to help you to have the courage to encourage yourself and others not to lose focus in this tempting world.
