Not Our Works, But His

READ:  Micah 6:6-8

Have you ever had one of those days where you are just on top of the world?  Everything seems to be going right, and you feel like a million bucks.  These are the times when you go out of your way to do something good.  You may think to yourself, “God sure must be smiling on me right now for doing that.”

God is smiling on us, but not for anything we have done.  It is because He is a loving and forgiving God, who sent His Son to make us blameless.  Nothing we can do will wash away our sins.  Nothing we have to offer will make up for all of them.  It is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that allows us to be called God’s children, as it says in verse 8 of our text: “He has shown you, O man, what it good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

So, the next time you are having one of those days, remember that it is a blessing from God, and not your own doing.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What do you do to thank God for your “good days?”  What are some good things you’ve done on those days?  How do you let others know that your good deeds are out of love for God, and not to make up for your sins?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God to help you remember who gets the credit for your good days.  Pray that God will help others realize that God makes them blameless, not good works.  Thank God for all the good days He has given you.
