When is the Right Time?
READ: Matthew 20:1-16
Laura’s grandma died a few weeks ago. She has been very worried lately. Laura is not sure if her grandma went to heaven. Grandma fell away from the Christian church and let her faith go. Laura knows that before her grandma died, she confessed her faith and prayed to God. But, was that enough? Laura thought you needed to believe your whole life.
In Matthew 20:1-16, Jesus told the parable of the workers. In this parable the workers were upset because the men that worked the least got paid the same as the men who worked the most. Jesus said the “first shall be last and the last shall be first.” This means that no matter what time you come to faith in your life, you will all enjoy the blessing of heaven. Laura can now find comfort because she knows that grandma will be in heaven waiting for her.
If you come to faith when you are 50 years old, it is no different than when you came to faith at birth. As long as you know that you are saved by God’s grace and not by works, heaven is yours. No matter what time in your life you come to faith, everyone who believes will enjoy eternal life.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What could you do to help someone that had a dilemma just like Laura? Now that you know you could come to faith when dying, how do you feel about that? Why would you want to be a Christian now if you could just come to faith at the end of your life?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that you stay a Christian and do not fall away. Pray for those that do not know the Word of God and they learn it. Thank God for the missionaries and pray that their work continues to be successful.
