READ: MARK 7:31-37

We read many stories of how Jesus was walking down the street, healing people left and right. You may wonder, why aren't miracles like that done today? Why aren't the deaf person's ears opened, or the mute's mouth opened?

The fact is, these same miracles are performed every single day. And who does them? You and I do. When you tell the Gospel to those who have not heard it, spiritually speaking you are opening spiritually deaf ears. When you explain the Gospel to them, you are opening the blind soul's eyes. And when they in turn tell someone else, the sinful mute's mouth is being opened. There is one requirement for these spiritual miracles to be performed, though. You must spread the Gospel.

We, as Christians, sometimes take the Gospel for granted, since many of us have had it for so long. We no longer are enthused about it, and we stop letting others know the wonderful message it contains. In Mark 7:36, it says, "Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone." (about the miracle) but the more He told them not to speak of it, the more they did. So, why aren't we just as enthused about spreading the news of Jesus? He commands us to do so, and yet we still aren't enthused about it, as the people in the text were, even though He commanded them not to do so.

Is it possible that we are still spiritually deaf and blind ourselves? Is it possible we don't see the ugliness of the sin that our Holy God sees in us? Is it possible we don't hear the hollowness of our words without Christian actions? Those who "see," value the message; become excited about it!

It is our privilege to enthusiastically spread God's Word. How else can "the deaf hear, the blind see, and the mute speak?" God will greatly bless all of your efforts, even the smallest witness to someone else. If no one had told you of God's great work, you would still be spiritually deaf and blind. Thankfully, you are not, but are you still mute?

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What ways today could you have stopped being mute? Are you zealous in spreading God's Word? How can you show your thankfulness to those who helped you "hear and see?"

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that God gives you strength to spread His Word. Pray for the "blind, deaf, and mute" people around you. Thank God for healing your spiritual handicap.
