Jesus Is My Nourishment

READ: Mark 5: 1-7
Have you ever gone hungry? Most people have the blessing of plentiful food and drink. There are some nations whose people do not have such blessings. Some have to search for food in a dump everyday because they can't afford to buy it, and some have to drink water that is diseased and dirty. And even after they have eaten, they are still hungry.
All people suffer from a special kind of hunger, a spiritual hunger. Our hunger can only be satisfied by God's Word. The feeding of the 4,000 was about feeding their earthly needs, but at the same time, Jesus was also satisfying their spiritual needs. They had been with Jesus and listening to his preaching for 3 days. They had forgotten to eat since then because they were listening to him preach. They were fulfilling there spiritual needs, which was more important than their earthly needs. Mark 8:2 says, "I have compassion for these people: they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat." This shows us what is most important in life, our spiritual needs.
Even though we may have earthly needs, we must place the strengthening of our faith above them, as the 4,000 men did during those three days. We will get hungry and tired, but we must stay strong in our faith and continue to learn more and more about God's Word and what it is that he commands.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How can we stay spiritually satisfied? How can we help others be spiritually satisfied?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for our daily bread. Pray for spiritual strength. Pray for the courage to help spread God's Word.
