READ: Isaiah 65:17-19

Have you ever wondered what heaven would be like? In these verses God says through Isaiah, “I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered…the sound of weeping and crying will be heard no more.” Not only is this a new spiritual heaven, but He makes all things new physically and spiritually. We will have glorified bodies and will see God with our own eyes.

This can be a great comfort to many Christians who here on earth may be struggling or having problems. God does not promise us an easy life here on earth. In fact, He often tells us in the Bible that we will face troubles and persecution, but gives us the promise and assurance of our heavenly reward.

God also tell us to, “Be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create.” Jesus also told His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them and also for us. We should gladly look forward to spending an eternity with Him there.

The destruction of Jerusalem after the exile is a prefigure of the Kingdom of Heaven which will be restored on the Last Day. Even when we are faced with death, or the death of a close friend or relative, we have this promise of comfort and assurance. We also have the hope, as God promises us, of a blessed reunion in the New Jerusalem.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Where else in Scripture does God promise us Heaven? How does He describe it? How can we be certain of our life after death?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that God keeps us in the faith to enjoy His blessing of the New Jerusalem. Thank God for sending His Son and for loving us enough to give us heaven as our eternal home.
