READ: James 5:7-11

It was the beginning of the cross-country season, and Randy was going to join the team this year. He was a sprinter in track last year, and didn’t do too well, but he liked running. Randy knew he had a long way to go, but he was willing to take the chance and push as hard as he could.

Through three long months of strenuous summer training, hard work-outs and very long distance running, Randy was ready for his first race. He had a really bad race and a shaky start to the season, but his coach told him to keep training like he had been, be patient and he would improve dramatically.

By the end of the year, Randy was running unbelievable times, and when he was a senior, he won the state championship.

James says in Chapter 5 to be patient until the Lord’s coming. We should be patient as the farmer is patient for his crop to grow and ripen and always be ready for the Lord’s coming. Just like a runner is training, we have to be patient and always ready for what’s coming. In the end, we’ll cross the final finish line into our heavenly home.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Why is it good to be patient? Is patience a fruit of faith? What does God say about patience?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray to God for patience. Pray to God that other people are patient in dealing with you.
