We Are Much Like Flowers

READ: Romans 6:3-11
Think about the life of a flower. You get planted in the ground; wait a while and then a shoot forward into new life. The bad part about being a flower around Wisconsin is that all of a sudden it gets cold and you die.
God tells us that we are dead to the world, but alive to Christ. That’s kind of like a flower. When it is in the ground, it appears as though it is dead, and it is, to the outside world. But, when spring comes, and the flower begins to bloom, a new life emerges into the world. We are dead to the world, and dead to sin, but when we bloom, there is no end to our lives. As soon as we push through that final layer of dirt, we burst into a glorious spring that will never end. The problem is, flowers succumb to insects and other bad organisms that prey upon the rich nutrients that a flower contains. So, we must be careful, because there is a greater enemy than a bunch of insects out there trying to get us to die, before we finish getting through the soil.
This passage is great to read when you are facing some trouble, or when you have doubts, because it reassures us that we are one with Christ who has already bloomed.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How should we live if we are alive to Christ? What does it mean to be united with Christ in both life and death? Can the devil still tempt us now that we are in Christ, even though he can’t tempt or touch Christ?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to help you show your love for Him everyday by the way you live, now that you are alive in Christ. Thank Him for loving us so much that He died so that we can rise with Him.
