READ: Psalm 119:9-16

Jeff, a Christian, was on his way home from school. He was approached by Steve and Bob, two good friends who were not Christians.

“Jeff, let’s have some fun. Let’s go to the store down the street and put some candy bars in our pockets when no one is looking. No one will even care.”

A couple of candy bars seemed like such a minor thing. Jeff knew this was wrong. He remembered Psalm 119 that he read in school.

“Well, what will you say to God after you steal them?” Jeff responded. The two boys were very surprised and embarrassed. Jeff turned around and continued on his way home.

Temptations are around us all the time. The devil is very deceptive and is constantly looking for a way to get us to sin. He makes the sin look appealing and all right by using even our friends to talk us into it.

What does God expect of you? When the world was created, Adam and Eve were perfect and did good until the devil tempted them. God gave his law to Moses which tells us what we can and cannot do. Since we are sinners, his law is impossible to keep. Jesus is our only hope. He died for all of us. Jeff was right. Every time we sin, we have to answer to God. So, if we really are Christians, how can we keep sinning?

The only way to prevent us from sinning is with the Holy Spirit’s help. When we follow God’s will, he will bless us. As the Psalmist says, we should want to do His will.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What should you do if you know you have sinned? What can you do to prevent yourself from sinning?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to forgive all your sins. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s help to prevent you from sinning.
