Dying of Thirst

READ: Psalm 42:1-2
Being thirsty has to be one of the hardest things to bear. When you’re running a long race, and your mouth is so dry that you can’t swallow, you truly long to reach the finish line and gulp down some cold water. Can you recall a time when it was so hot that your lips cracked and all you wanted was a tall glass of ice water? Even Jesus suffered of thirst when He hung on the cross for our sins on Calvary. We can all relate to longing for water. Water is important for our lives. It refreshes us, strengthens us, and allows us to get on with the day.
We need water to survive here on earth, but what do we crave as we run our heavenly race? As Christians, our souls long for our God and His Word, because we are sinners in tremendous need of help, we need something to quench our tremendous spiritual thirst. We find refreshment in our God. And he never turns us down. He gives us strength, love and forgiveness daily through His Word. Everything we need to satisfy our souls is right in front of us. When you are thirsty and you see water, you grab it. When you see or hear God’s Word with all of its strength, encouragement and love - grab it, use it, and live by it daily. God will refresh your thirsty soul.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: For what does a true Christian crave? Where can we go to find the ultimate quench for our thirsty souls? Will God ever turn us down? What does God give us through His Word?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask the Holy Spirit to enter your heart. Ask God to strengthen you with His Word so that you can live through Christ daily. Be sincere about your repentance and seek God’s forgiveness.
