READ: Psalm 1

“I’m sick and tired of this. I feel totally rejected. People used to use my name often. Now, it seems that people think of me as a dirty word. It’s so depressing. If people knew me better, they wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable around me. Have you ever been made fun of by people who don’t know the real you? That’s how I feel all of the time.

"People used to know and appreciate me. Then the lies started up, and I guess everyone believed them. Now people hardly ever say my name, and many people who still do say my name get made fun of.

"Well, I’m sick of all of that. I won’t let them shame me. I’m proud to let the whole world know who I am. My name is...MORALITY.

Have you ever heard that term before? Was it used in a positive way? What do you think of when you hear it? Do you think about it as a word your parents used to keep you in line, or one your teacher uses while putting on his “holier than thou” act?

No wonder this term is no longer used regularly. It seems so negative, so confusing. After all, what is morality anyway?

Did you know that the word “morality” is not in the Bible? In the dictionary it is defined as “good or right conduct or character.” Here’s the confusing part – who decides what’s wrong or right? There are so many people telling us what they think is wrong or right. Who do we listen to—parents, teachers, friends, pastors?

All of these people may have good ideas, but there’s only ONE SOURCE you can really trust—GOD. You have some big decisions to make. Decisions about what kind of morals you’re going to set and live by. Listen to what God says. Listening to God will make the difference between walking the way of the wicked and walking the way of the righteous.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do you feel about the word “morality?” How should you feel? How does this word and its meaning apply to your life?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that God would watch over you as you develop your morals. Ask him to help you develop decent morals and live by them.
