The Good Shepherd

READ: John 10:11-18
Do you have something that is very important to you that you treasure? Perhaps you have a pet, like a dog. Dogs are a lot of work, but you love them anyway. You have to take care of them by feeding them, giving them love, and always watching over them. If you have a dog, or another animal then you probably have a good understanding of what it is like to take care of them. You must lead that pet throughout its life in much the same way Jesus leads and cares for us.
In this text, Jesus describes His love for us. He describes Himself as a shepherd. He says, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." He is a shepherd, and we are his sheep. Sheep are dumb and helpless animals. He cares for us and watches over us every single day. Know one in the world could possibly love us the way Jesus loves us. He loves us so much that He gave up His life for us. Not only for some of us, but for all of us. Even though we are a lot of work too, He always loves us the same. We can always feel safe knowing that Jesus is with us. He is always by our sides guarding and protecting us, just like a shepherd.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What does it mean to love something or someone totally? Do I feel worthy to have Jesus as my shepherd? List some of the ways you have strayed from your shepherd then tear it up as you recommit yourself to His guidance.
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that God will help us to always remember how much He loves us, and when we stray to please lead us back to Him.
