God's Hand for Us

READ: Matthew 14:22-33
On a cold winter day a man and his son were walking to the store. It was the first time three year old Bobby was wearing a coat with deep pockets. As they came to a slippery patch, the father said, “You better hold my hand,” but the boy’s hands were snug in his coat. He kept them there until he slipped and fell.
Aren’t we like Bobby sometimes? We think we know more than our Father. We trust ourselves more than we trust Him and take matters into our own hands. We have to learn too that when we come to slippery places, that holding on to God’s hand will prevent our feet from stumbling. We “are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.” Here’s a little poem to help us remember this:
He leadeth me! O blessed thought!
O word with heavenly comfort fraught
Whate’er I do, whate’er I be
Still ‘tis God’s hand that leadeth me!
He leadeth me! He leadeth me!
My hand in his – He leadeth me!
His stronger hand shall lead me on
Until in heaven my rest is won.
What a comfort to know that, as believers, we are in God’s hand. He does the holding. Where he leads us, we will follow. With our hand secure in His, we shall come some day to the far side of the valley – to His waiting “Father’s House.”
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are the main ways we can grab onto God’s hand? How should we be examples for others? How are we like Peter?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for strength and guidance. Pray that we trust God our heavenly Father.
