The Ultimate Sacrifice

READ: Romans 9:1-5
Working in a bank, you are taught to obey the orders of a robber if one should ever rob the bank. You are also taught to put yourself between danger and the customer. I never thought anything like that would happen, until last week when a masked man came in and demanded money. Of course, I gave it to him. He also demanded that someone go along with him just in case the police tried to do anything that might harm him. Just as he was going to grab a woman, my friend Brian stepped in and said, “Take me instead of her.” The man thought that was a fair trade. But to his surprise, Brian put him in a headlock, took him to the ground, and waited until the police came.
Paul is telling the Romans that he would spend eternity in hell if the rest of the Jews could enter heaven. Christ gave His life that the whole world may be saved. Giving up a life for someone else is the ultimate sacrifice anyone can make. We don’t necessarily have to die for someone. We could sacrifice by giving some of our time, treasures and talents to those who are in need.
Ask Jesus daily that He would give us the strength to do this.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Would you give your life for someone else? Can we sacrifice by giving others some of what God has so richly given us?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to give us the strength to do this willingly.
