READ: Romans 8:26-27

Remember back to your good old grade school days, to the time before we could speak for ourselves to the opposite gender? I sure do. I would have to ask one of my friends to talk to one of his friends. Then his friend would talk to him and get back to my friend. This whole process sometimes happened in one recess period, believe it or not. Sure, it seemed like an eternity, but to begin a “serious relationship,” this was pretty quick.

What would I have done if it wasn’t for the help of my mediators? Of course, I could have talked to the guy I liked myself, but I would have been very embarrassed. Something silly would probably be babbled out of my mouth. The appropriate message wouldn’t have gotten across to my new-found "love." Thank goodness for the help I received from friends.

The Holy Spirit serves as our friendly mediator when we pray. Let’s face it, we, as sinners, don't what or how to ask God for what we need, and couldn't ever hope to impress him with our words. The Holy Spirit “translates” our words into the right message. Think of it this way: he turns our bronze into gold in God’s eyes because of Jesus’ death.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Why is it to our advantage to have the Holy Spirit as our mediator?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: In your prayers, remember to thank God for the price Jesus paid in order that we are able to freely speak to God without fear.
