The Power of His Presence

READ:  Luke 1:39-55

Luke 1:39-55 tells us about when Mary, Jesus’ mother, went to a little town in the country of Judea to visit her cousin Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, the baby inside her womb, the future John the Baptist, leaped for joy.  Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.  She proclaimed that Mary and the baby inside her were blessed and that she was favored to be in their presence.

Is this not an amazing story that an unborn baby, still in the womb, would leap because he was responding to the voice of the mother of the Savior of the world?  That just shows how awesome God and His presence can be, and what effect they can have on ordinary people around Him. In verse 42, Elizabeth says, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!”  It’s amazing; people were praising Jesus, the Savior, before He was even born.

The next time you find yourself having trouble praising God, just remember Elizabeth, and the faith she had in Him before He was even born.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  When presented with the fact that God’s presence is around us at all times, how does that make you feel?  What things can we do to present ourselves better in His sight?  Are these things going to be easy or hard for you?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank Jesus for coming into this world and dying for our sins.  Ask Him to help us do what is right in our daily lives.  Ask Him to strengthen our faith and guide us by His saving Word.
