When Are They Coming?

READMalachi 4:1-2a

Mom and Dad were away again for the weekend.  It was now Sunday, late afternoon.  The three of us were expecting them to come back, but we weren’t sure exactly when.  We did know that they said they might come back early.  We did know that Mom and Dad both had off on Monday.  Dad had said it would be nice to see his parents and get away for a couple of days.  Mom said she had a lot of stuff to do at home and wanted to get back sooner.  The three of us were now debating if we should clean the house up now, in case they got back that night, or later because they might not get back until tomorrow.

That’s kind of the way Judgment Day is going to be.  We all know it’s coming, but none of us knows when.  In Malachi 4:1 it says, "Surely the day is coming…”  A lot of times we put off Jesus by thinking that He won’t be coming for a very long time.  We have to be ready!  Jesus could come right now or He could come in a million years.  None of us knows.

The three of us were not ready for Mom and Dad.  We put off cleaning the house until later, and Mom and Dad came home that afternoon.  They were angry about us not keeping the house clean.  We weren’t ready.  When God comes again, the “not ready” will be set on fire.  The sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings for the people who are ready.

The Lord is surely coming again, so, don’t be like us waiting for Mom and Dad.  Be ready for Him!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why should we always be ready?  How can we always be ready?  What is wrong in our world today that we might not be ready?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask the Lord that you may always be ready.  Ask the Lord to come quickly so we can go home with Him.  Thank the Lord for His future coming.
