A Christmas Wish
READ: John 1:1-14
Little Johnny always wanted a toy train for Christmas. He put a toy train down for three years on his list to Santa. On Christmas Day as they were opening their presents, he came to the last one. He was sure that he would have to ask for a train again for the next year. However, as he was opening his present, he discovered that it was a train that he had been asking for for four years. He was so excited; he thought that it was the best present he had ever received in his life. He hugged his father and mother and gave them a kiss for the wonderful gift he had received.
Johnny hugged his father and mother. That is what we should do to God, if we could, because He has given us the best gift of all—the gift of eternal life. God promised to send His Son since the beginning of time.
Sometimes we get caught up on earthly things and then we forget about Christ Jesus and the gift of eternal life in heaven with Him. Earthy things only last so long. Johnny’s train will probably last for about two weeks and then get tossed into the corner, where it will stay until his mother picks it up.
Is that the way it goes with our free gift from God? Sometimes we will take our gift for granted and we will “toss it in the corner for later,” or even forget about it. We shouldn’t do that though, because God gave His one and only Son for us so that we could inherit the gift of eternal life.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some of God’s gifts or blessings that He has given to you? Why do we sometimes take God’s gifts for granted? Should we share God’s gift with other people, even if they are unbelievers?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray to keep us strong in the faith and keep us from harm and danger. Pray that we might tell others about His wonderful gift, and pray that we do not take His gift for granted.
