Jesus Is Born!

READ: Luke 2:1-20

Do you have any younger brothers or sisters?  If so, do you remember how excited you were when they were born?  I remember how excited I was when my little sister was born.  I couldn’t wait to be an older sister, the one in control.  Do you also ever find yourself asking the questions, “Why was I born? What is my sole purpose on this earth?”

Well, first of all try to imagine how exciting it would be to be at the birth of Jesus!  It must have been an amazing experience.  God says in Luke 2:13-14, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to whom his favor rests.’”  There were great multitudes of angels there with Jesus to share their excitement of the newborn King.  To be at the birth place and to see the Messiah as a baby is truly the greatest experience one could have.

Along with Jesus’ birth often comes the question, “Why was Jesus born and why was I born?”

Well, we were all put on this earth to, as Jesus says in Matthew 28:19, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”  God would like us to spread His Gospel message throughout the world.

Jesus was born to die for us.  He was the atoning sacrifice for our sins.  He came on this earth as a man to suffer, be persecuted, and die to save us from eternal damnation.

So, the next time you hear the question, “Why was I born?” or you hear someone talk about their excitement of an upcoming baby, point them to the Gospel of Luke and tell them about the exciting birth of their Savior, Jesus!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why do you think we were placed on this earth?  Why did God place Jesus on this earth?  What are some things you often get excited about?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for loving us enough to give us Jesus.  Pray for guidance and comfort in telling others about Jesus’ birth.
