A Feeling of Hunger

READ:  Mark 8:1-9

One day a man was standing near an old run down building.  As others would walk by, they saw the poor man in ripped clothes; he looked homeless.  The people just proceeded to walk by.  The poor man stopped one of the people and asked for some food.  “I have no food for you,” replied the man. “Nor would I give you any.”  And he continued to pass by.

The next day, the poor man sat outside of a church.  Another man passed by and offered no help to the poor man.  Another passed by and he too offered no help to the hungry poor man.  The poor man bowed his head and prayed to God that He would send someone to give him food.  As the man raised his head, there stood a young man.  The young man asked the poor man, “Are you hungry?”

The old man replied, “Yes I am.  Are you the one God has sent to feed me?”

The young man replied, “I don’t know, did you ask for food for the body or for food for the soul?”

The old man stood up and said, “May I never go hungry again with God.”

The young man gave the poor man some food and they went to see the young man’s pastor.

As you can see, God feeds us both bodily and most importantly, spiritually.  “I have compassion for my people; I will not send them away hungry.”

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Would you help out the poor man like the young man did?  Would you witness your faith to a stranger?  Do you feel hungry for God’s Word?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Say a prayer of thanksgiving.  Ask to be fed with spiritual food, His Word.  Ask to be more like the man who witnessed his faith and who helped out the poor man.
