A Time to Praise
READ: Psalm 150
Peter took a trip to Egypt to see the pyramids. As he stood at the base of the largest one, staring upwards towards the pinnacle, he could not help but be inspired by the power and strength it reflected. That night, he wrote home to tell his family about his experience. Peter’s letter was filled with words like powerful, majestic, great, and awesome.
In Martin Luther’s explanation of the Third Commandment, he says that we should, “Call upon God’s name in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.” When troubles come up, many times people ask God for help. They pray to Him all the time. Often they thank Him for all that He has done. However, when was the last time you took time out to praise the Lord?
Psalm 150 talks about praising God. In verse two it says, “Praise Him for His acts of power; Praise Him for His surpassing greatness.” God has more strength, power, wisdom, and love than anyone or anything. He is holy, eternal, omniscient, and almighty. The mere thought of Him is awe-inspiring. All the praise that we could give Him could not be able to begin to express how great and wonderful God is.
The works of men may be majestic, but it is God alone who is worthy of all our praise. So, let us praise the Lord for all of His wonderful deeds.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some of the words you would use to describe how great the Lord is? How does your life praise the Lord? What could you change in your life to praise the Lord even more?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Praise the Lord for whom He is. Praise the Lord for what He has done. Ask the Lord to help you live your life in a way that will praise Him more.
