All Will Face Death

READPsalm 90

James and Paul were talking one day about heaven and hell.  James asked Paul where he thought he was going when he died.  Paul told him neither place, because he was going to live on earth forever.

How do you think that James should respond to Paul in order to get him on track?  In Psalm 90 it talks about how man is mortal and how God is the only one that is immortal.  In Psalm 90, verses 3a and 5a, it says, “You turn men back to dust…” and “You sweep men away in the sleep of death…” Verses 2b and 4 tell us how God is immortal.  It says, “From everlasting to everlasting you are God,” and “For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.”

In Psalm 90, we see that death is the judgment on us for our sins.  We also see that mortal men need God’s grace all the way until judgment day.  We are told in Psalm 90, verse 9a, “All our days pass away under your wrath,” and in verse 8, “You have set our iniquities before you, our secrets in the light of your presence.”

Remember, we will die, because God is the only immortal one and we all need His grace.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Being Christians, why should we look forward to our last judgment?  What kind of death is being referred to in this text for a Christian?  If a non-Christian responded like Paul, how would you answer him?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Ask God to fill our life with many happy days on this earth.  Ask God for His grace on us during our life.  Thank God for the many days and blessings in them that He has already given.
