Love the Lord Your God

READ: Mark 12:28-34

In our lives, we sin frequently.  It happens so much, some of the time we aren’t even conscious of the fact that we are sinning.  What we are in fact doing is casting God to the side and putting ourselves first.

“Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”  This is the most important commandment.  Do you think you can really say that you have obeyed this commandment all of the time?  All you would have to do is put yourself in front of God’s will and you have broken it.  Except for Jesus, no one can say that they have obeyed this commandment.  We have failed this commandment many times, so we deserve God’s wrath and punishment.  On this earth many people think that they have it bad, but it does not even compare to the wrath of God.

Good works won’t get you out of this either.  Jesus is the only one who gives us hope for salvation.  All of the good works add up to nothing compared to what Jesus has done for us.  He alone was the only person to obey this commandment perfectly.  In doing this, He has given us a path to heaven.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How come this is the most important commandment?  How often do we break this commandment?  How can we reduce the number of times we break it?  What can we do to help us keep this commandment?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank Him for sending us Jesus.  Ask Him to help in obeying this commandment.  Ask Him to keep us in the faith.
