Prepare the Way for Jesus
READ: Mark 11:1-12
It’s Friday night and you are expecting a large group of people at your house for a fancy dinner party. When your guests arrive, all decked out in dresses and suits, they find you watching reruns in your pajamas with a big bag of potato chips in one hand and the remote in the other. Their immediate reaction would be to check their invitations to make sure they have the correct date.
Now, obviously, no one would invite people over to their house and make no preparations. Is it not just as absurd for Jesus to enter our lives, but then not make our hearts ready for Him?
The people of Jerusalem knew what it meant to prepare for Jesus. His disciples went and got the donkey for Jesus out of someone’s backyard without being questioned. The minute the Israelites heard he was coming, they gathered together palm branches and laid down their coats before Him. They were so full of the Holy Spirit that they could not help but shout out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Every one of us has said these words many times in our worship services, but are they really coming from our hearts? Are we so full of God’s love that we have to shout out praises? As Psalm Sunday approaches this year, let us not forget to make room for Jesus and renew our joy for our Lord.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What have I done to prepare myself for Jesus? What can I do to make myself ready for God? How can I stay prepared for Jesus?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to open your heart to Him. Praise Him because He is such an awesome God. Ask Him to forgive you for all the times there was no room for Jesus in your heart.
