God's Seed
READ: Micah 5:2-5a
Think back to when you were a kid. Have you ever wondered how a gigantic tree could come from a tiny seed? As a child this always puzzled me. I can still remember looking at the seed and thinking, “No tree is going to fit in there. It doesn’t even taste good! What’s the important use of this seed?”
Many times in our life we feel small compared to others, and sometimes it causes us to say to ourselves, “What’s so special about me? I can’t do half the things Fred does. What gifts has God given me?”
Turn to Micah 5:2, “But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel...” Although Bethlehem was considered small, God didn’t consider them the least among Judah. Through Bethlehem, God carried out His promise of the Savior, and Bethlehem received glorification.
We know the importance of the seed is life. In some ways we’re like the seed. Because we might not be as talented as others, the world considers us small; at times we take that perspective. Take to heart that God doesn’t consider us small. He loves us, and has given us all the gifts we need. God is working wonders through us, and in time we’ll see it. Why feel small? God has already made us an important seed of His great plan.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some reasons we may look down upon ourselves? Think about your gifts and how they can be used to glorify God. How can we encourage one another to use those God-given gifts and talents?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God for strength and guidance when you feel down about yourself. Ask God to help you use whatever gifts you have. Thank God for your gifts.
