Pattern Your Whole Life After God's Will
READ: I Thessalonians 5:16-24
John was a typical teenager who went to Christian schools. His life was centered around God and he was blessed. Later in John’s life he became distant from God and centered his life around material things like money and his job. Every Sunday he would put off church because he had to work. John began to stray from God and His commands. His excuse for not going to church was that he was a good person and he went to church for half of his life. He forgot everything he learned in his earlier life, but he still insisted he was a good person and didn’t need to go to church.
John died an unbeliever. He lost his faith. He didn’t hold to God’s teachings and he ended up in hell. He might have been a Christian for half of his life, but that doesn’t matter in God’s eyes. It only matters if you believe in God at the end of your life.
Most of us lose our focus in life at one time or another. We get caught up in our own life and forget about God on Sunday morning. We must hold God’s Word for our entire lives. Like it says in I Thessalonians 5:21-23, “Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every evil. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord.”
When you stand before God, will you be blameless in His sight?
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some things that make us lose focus in our lives? What makes them so important that we forget about God? What is the only way we can get into heaven?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for those who have fallen away from God. Pray for your faith to be strengthened. Give thanks for our faith.
