Dirty and Polluted

READPsalm 24:1

The sky was getting dark.  Thunder began to roll and lightening struck.  A few drops started to fall and soon there were many drops falling.  Beau was sitting in front of the big window in the dining room.  I noticed he looked afraid, so I asked what was wrong.

“We talked about dirty rain in school today,” he said.  “Smoke from chimneys and big trucks go up in the sky and make the clouds dirty.  Then we get yucky rain.”  He added, “God shouldn’t give rain because polluted rain can hurt us and fish and my flowers and…”

I grabbed Beau and put him on my lap.  We sat in the dining room and I read Psalm 24:1 to him.  “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.”  He sat on my lap and was quiet for a minute.  Then he remembered the Bible story about when God created the world.  It must have been beautiful.  For a few minutes we talked about all of the beautiful things in God’s world that He shares with us.  Even though rain is polluted, we still need to appreciate it.

Rain is one of the many blessings God has given to us.  We, too, like rain, are dirty and yucky in sin.  Even though we are dirty in sin, we are still on the earth for a purpose, just as rain has a purpose.  Even though we are dirty and rain is polluted, we and the rain are still useful and beautiful.  Just like the rain, we are part of God’s creation.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why was Beau afraid?  How can we be compared to rain?  What is our purpose on earth as Christians?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Thank God for the earth He has given us and for everything in it.  Ask for forgiveness that our dirty, sinful beings would be made clean.  Help us appreciate all that you have shared with us.
