Road Block
READ: II Corinthians 6:1-10
Early in the summer of 1996 we received disastrous news. A dear friend had been diagnosed with cancer. At this time the doctors operated immediately. Her expectancy to live was 50/50. While coming home from treatment one winter day, her sister and she were involved in a terrible car accident. The months following were a battle to survive. However, because of the cancer and the constant need for hospitalization, a road block stood in the way. How could I witness to her? It took great endurance on both our parts to overcome these unique obstacles.
Sometimes we question God’s plan. In our hardships, however, He always has an ultimate plan for us. God promises in II Corinthians 6:3, “We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited.” Even when we think that a situation or problem stands in our way, our Lord will always provide an open door for us to walk through. We should always encourage our family, friends, and co-workers to receive God’s grace.
This friend is still living, thanks to God’s grace. Sometimes the days are long and hard for her. The doctors’ appointments can be stressful and very scary. The family’s concerns need patience and understanding, too. In regards to the unknown and dying though, she will have a chance to live on with God someday.
Everyone should have the chance to have nothing and still possess everything through God.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What kind of stumbling blocks has God allowed in our lives? How can we overcome these troubles? Why can we rejoice in our sufferings?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for a friend, family member, or co-worker that is dealing with hardships. Ask that you can overcome barriers and witness to these people. Thank God for the faith He has given to you.
