The Greatest Gift of All

THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL

READExodus 12:1-14

Joshua was not a very popular boy.  He was always trying to fit in with the other guys, but they never knew he existed.  This bothered him dearly to the point where he was losing sleep.  One day, to his surprise, one of the guys asked him to the biggest party of the year.  He could hardly believe it.  He went home to get ready for this big event.

When he got there, it was not at all what he expected.  There were people drinking and smoking and the guy who invited him offered him a beer.  He didn’t know what to do.  Should he take it and fit in, or should he take it and not drink it, or simply say “No” and be rejected?  Joshua turned him down, and to his surprise, was respected because of his choice.

In Exodus 12:1-14, the Lord gives the Israelites instructions for the Passover to show that they were God’s children.  The Lord said, “Put blood over the door frame and if the angel sees that when passing, then your household will be saved.”

We can learn something from Joshua-to stand up for our faith and not be ashamed.  Others will see we are children of God, just as the angel could see which Israelites were children of God by the blood over the door.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  What situation have you found yourself in where you had to stand up for your faith?  What would you have done in Joshua’s situation?  Why is it important that we show our faith?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Pray that the Lord gives us strength to always stand up for our faith.  Pray that we are not ashamed to let others know we are God’s children.
