Are You Strong Enough?

READ: Genesis 19:1-29

Almost every teenager between the ages of 15 and 19 years old has been to a party.  The chances that these parties may have sex, drugs, and/or alcohol is very great.  Without considering the consequences of their actions, many easily influenced teens give into temptation.  More often than not, not a word is said as these young adults indulge themselves in sin.  In a morally challenging situation, would you be strong enough to stand up for what is right?

In Genesis 19:7 it states, “No, my friends.  Don’t do this wicked thing.”  God wants us to be leaders, not followers.  When our faith is put to the test in worldly challenges, He wants us to turn to Him for guidance and strength.  If we only rely on our own will power, we always find that it’s not enough.  By turning to God and depending on Him to give us strength, these obstacles are easier to handle.  While Lot lived in Sodom and Gomorrah, he was constantly surrounded by evil, yet he did not fall into sin.  With God’s direction, Lot was able to overcome his ever-present temptations.  God allows us to experience challenges in our daily lives to test our faith.  However, if we trust in God, no challenge is too hard to conquer.

Lot, though hesitant, obeyed the commands of the Lord.  Whether listening to a friend or the heart, God will always guide us to the right path.  This guidance is given to us as a gift.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some daily temptations that you face?  Who do you turn to in challenging times?  Why?  Why haven’t you confronted others when they do something wrong?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God for guidance and strength in rough times.  Thank God for His forgiveness.  Praise Him for strengthening our faith through challenges.
