Learn From the Mistakes of Others
READ: Jeremiah 26:1-6
Reuben was the typical high school jock. He was an all around athlete and his grades were always up there, too. His problem was that he attended illegal parties during the football season. Though he usually did not participate in the drinking, he sometimes gave in. The rest of the team also attended these parties with Reuben. One night the party got busted, and Reuben was caught in the act. The rest of the team managed to sneak away, but Reuben was thrown off the team. It took an instance like that to teach the whole team what one of the consequences of parties are.
There are many other examples that could very well have illustrated the same point. The point is: DON’T WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS BEFORE YOU STOP DOING SOMETHING YOU SHOULDN'T. Learn from mistakes and set an example. We all have been in situations where we know what we are doing is not God-pleasing. We need to avoid situations like that, and strive for perfection at all times. In Jeremiah 26:1-6 it says, “…turn every man from his evil ways…” By setting an example we can help show others the right way to act as well.
By looking at how others have failed, we can learn what to avoid so we may succeed. Instead of making the same mistakes, we can set an example for others to follow as well. Even if we have to stand alone, we should always stand with the Lord.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How can we show our faith at all times? How can we openly be Christians? How do we know what’s right to do?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for the confidence to stand with Jesus always. Pray for a clean heart. Thank God for sending Jesus.
