Set a Good Example
READ: Titus 2: 1-15
We all have one in our class. Whether it be Algebra or Chemistry or whatever, we all have one. What am I speaking of? I am speaking of that student in the front of the classroom. That student who never speaks unless he/she raises her hand and is called on. That student who takes four pages of notes while the rest of us doze off during a boring history movie. That student who never answers a question incorrectly. That student who is first one to be called on when a teacher has asked a challenging question.
How many times has the teacher of that class pointed out this student and told us we should be more like him/her; that we should use him/her as an example?
As we hear in Titus, chapter two, Christ also tells us to be an example, just as that good student is to the other students. In verse six it says, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” No matter what we do in our lives, we should always remember there are others around us, and by our Christ-pleasing actions and words, we can be a witness to others.
When we are an example for others, we are not to be ashamed. On the other hand, we are to be proud of who we are and who we believe in. We should be dedicated and encourage others to follow in the footsteps set by Christ.
We should obey the commandments God has set for us. Of course, this is impossible to do perfectly, but we are to try out of love and faith in Christ. We are to live in self-control and say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions.
So, let us be an example for others out of our love for Christ. For Christ set an example for all people to follow, for He “lived without sin and redeemed us from all wickedness and purified for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
“In everything set them an example by doing what is good.”
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: (Read Titus 2 once again) According to what are we to teach and be an example? From what have we received such grace? What are we to teach both men and women?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God for strength to be a good example for others out of love for Him. Thank Him for the grace He has shown to us and for being our example.
