READMatthew 14:13-21

Kelly saw a homeless person the other day as she was walking with her daddy to Subway.  At first, she did not want to look at him because of how dirty he looked.  He had on a pair of old worn out Nikes.  His big toe stuck out of one of the shoes.  His jeans that were caked with dirt were held up by a piece of rope.  He had on a T-shirt with a flannel shirt over it.  The flannel shirt looked like it had been eaten by moths.  He was digging in a garbage dumpster, as if looking for food.

Kelly started feeling ashamed of herself for trying to ignore the fact that the man was even there.  So she asked her daddy to hurry up and to go get an additional sub sandwich, for she had special plans for the sub.

Since Subway was right around the corner, Kelly and her daddy went in and got another submarine sandwich.  Kelly took the sub and walked up to the man and gave it to him.  The man looked at her with a sort of bewilderment.  He then took the sub, put it in his flannel shirt and kept digging in the garbage.  Kelly really never found out if he ate it.

In our text for this devotion, Jesus fed 5000 people.  Jesus did this not for himself, but for the sake of others.  This is the same with our lives.  Should we not also want to help others in times of trouble?  We should want to help others as a witness of our faith.  When we help others, we are helping Jesus at the same time.

So today why not help someone out?  Then you will be able to see how just a little bit of help can make a difference.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:  Why do we want to help out anyone in need?  Did Kelly do what she did because she had to or because she wanted to?  Do you know of someone you can help?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:  Why not pray for someone who you know needs help.  Pray for guidance in helping others.
