Blaming Others for Your Mistakes

READ: Genesis 3:1-7

“Stop throwing that ball in the house,” said Jordan’s mom.  Jordan and Monica continued to play catch in the living room.  Jordan’s mom warned them again in a loud voice.  Jordan was frightened at the tone she used this time, so he threw the ball, trying to get rid of it as fast as he could.  The ball hit a lamp and broke it.  Jordan’s mom came in to living room from the kitchen when she heard the sound of shattering ceramic on her hardwood floor.

Immediately Jordan screamed, “Monica did it!”

Monica exclaimed, “But I didn’t do it.”

Jordan’s mom took Jordan’s side in this situation and began yelling at Monica for breaking the lamp.  Monica began to cry.  Jordan felt bad.  He then confessed to his mom, “I did it, not Monica.”

In Genesis 3:1-7 Adam blamed Eve for his sin.  Eve blamed the serpent for her sin.  They ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the tree  God had commanded them not to eat from.  When they had eaten from the tree, God came to see them.  Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves and their sin from God, but He found them.

Nothing we say, nothing we do, can hide our sins from God.  Let us confess them and enjoy forgiveness as Jesus carries them for us.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What did Jordan do in this situation?  What have you blamed on somebody else today?  What sins have you tried to hide from your parents or God?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS:    Ask the Lord to help us with this continuous sin to blame others for what we have done wrong.  Ask Him to help us avoid the sin of trying to hide our sins from our parents and God, (even though sins can’t be hidden from God).  Pray for forgiveness for this sin.
