READ: Galatians 3:15-22
Paul spoke these words to the Galatians. He says: “My fellow Christians” actually meaning brothers (believers in Christ). God’s promise concerning the coming of the Messiah was given to Abraham and generations afterward until fulfillment when Christ lived, died and rose again. The promise is a testament, as Paul calls it, much like a “last will and testament.” It is not to be changed in any way or form. The descendant spoken of in this Scripture reading is Christ. The Law was given 430 years after God confirmed the agreement with Abraham that Christ would come from his descendants. The Law given on Mt. Sinai to Moses did not cancel the promise of the Savior. There is no way man could ever keep those commandments. The commandments were given as a mirror to show man his sin, as a guide on how to lead our lives and conduct ourselves in the world around us. The Law is not a promise of redemption, but instead, the Law condemns. Only the promise and its fulfillment in Christ saves.
God is one—always the same and never changes His mind, always keeping His promises. No conditions are attached to the Gospel promise. THE GOSPEL SAVES; THE LAW CONDEMNS. The promise was kept in Christ and He fulfilled the Law for us. The blessing of heaven is now ours through faith in Christ.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Ask a friend what they think of the Law that God had made. Ask a friend if they know that God forgives their sins as long as they believe in God.
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for forgiveness of your sins that you did during the week or weekend. Pray to God and ask Him to help you through the day or night or week. Pray to God requesting that a friend or someone who is hurting and who needs help will get through the days and nights ahead of them.
