Let Your Light Shine
READ: Ephesians 5:8-14
Eric was invited to go to a party. It was the biggest party of the year, and everyone was going to be there. When he arrived at the party there was a lot of drinking going on. A guy came up to Eric and said, “Here try some; it will make you feel good.” Eric replied, “No thanks, I feel fine.”
Eric is a good example of living as children of light. We are to do what is pleasing to the Lord. We should stay away from darkness, which are the sins in the world. Then we should concentrate on being a light, and doing what is good and right. When Eric said “No thanks” he was being an example to others. He was letting the other guy know he didn’t think it was right. He was shining his light on others.
There is a lot of peer pressure out there and it is a great temptation. We need to learn to stand firm in our faith, and as Eric did, live like children of light and be an example to others. It may be easy to say, but when it comes to doing it, that’s a whole different thing. The Lord will give you the strength and courage to resist the devil’s temptation. Ask Him for it.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are some other temptations that teenagers face? How can you be an example of living as a child of light? How could you help out a friend that is having a hard time dealing with temptations and does not have the strength to resist them?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Ask God to give you the strength to go against peer pressure and be a good example to others. If you have a friend who is struggling with temptation you may want to also pray for him/her.
