The King Shall Come
READ: Matthew 2:1-11
Every Fourth of July my family and I go to see a parade that leads to a nearby park. It is filled with the traditional things; a marching band, bikes, coaster wagons, and many people wearing our Country's colors-red, white, and blue. Also, American flags are as far as the eye can see.
In some ways, Palm Sunday was just like a parade. A main attraction, many spectators, and people shouting out in joy. But there are many differences, too. A Fourth of July parade is celebrating the birth of our Country, but Palm Sunday was celebrating Jesus in all His glory. This ride symbolized the beginning of God's gracious sacrifice of His dear Son. This was Jesus' last glorious ride before the beginning of the end of His human life. This ride truly was magnificent for Jesus. The people standing around shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" What a glorious end to Jesus' ministry. People were laying down their cloaks and palm tree branches of palm trees for Jesus to ride on.
Jesus is truly a glorious King and Lord. He is holy and mighty and yet He suffered and died on the cross for our sins. Let us praise God every day of our lives for the wonderful gift of His Son. Let us be found praising Him when the King comes again!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How else was Jesus honored before His death? How can we honor Jesus in our actions? What can we do to show our thanks to God for sending His Son for our forgiveness?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God that He gave His Son to die for us. Pray that wew never take our lives for granted. Pray that God helps us realize our own sins.
