Following the Right Path
READ: Exodus 24:12, 15-18
It was a Friday afternoon and Lizzy's parents were about to leave for the weekend. It was Lizzy's chance to throw the biggest party of the year.
Almost as if reading her mind, her mom stated firmly, "No parties while we are away. We have set out a list of rules we expect you to obey."
"We trust you, Lizzy, and you wouldn't want to disappoint us, would you?" her father said sternly.
"A little party...no one would ever find out, and I'll make sure the house is spotless before my parents came home," Lizzy thought. As soon as her parents left, she started making a list of necessities, but something caught her eye. It was the list of rules for her to obey. Lizzy was second thinking her plans. She really shouldn't disobey her parents' rules. After all, she was brought up to love and respect them.
In Exodus 24:12, 15-18, Moses went up to Mt. Sinai to get the tablets of stone. Even though he didn't have to obey the commands or teach them to the Israelites, he did anyway, out of love and respect for God. He taught them and followed the rules to the best of his ability.
We all should follow Moses' example. It's not just parents, but God who trusts us to do our best with what He has given to us.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How do we "go against the flow?" When have you stood up for your beliefs?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray for forgiveness for the times you've given into temptation. Ask for guidance to do the right thing when you are faced with an obstacle in your way. Thank Him for keeping you in the right path and never to let you go astray.
