I'm OK

READ: John 8:31-32

There are many different churches in the world today. Some of those churches like to manipulate the Word of God, twisting the Bible until it says what they want to hear. Sometimes these churches even ignore Biblical teachings entirely. These churches practice "higher criticism," saying that human reason is higher than the Bible.

Sometimes we practice higher criticism as well. When our old Adam gets the best of us, we tend to think that we know better than God. We often sin and then twist God's Word to justify the sin. Perhaps even worse, however, when we face trials in our lives we sometimes ignore God's love and protection by not turning to His Word for support.

In today's text, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples; then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." You see, it is important to hold to the everlasting truth of God's Word. When we fall short of perfection in our lives (as we so very often do), only the words of Jesus can comfort us by showing the path to heaven through Him.

It is the Gospel of Jesus which we must cling to above everything else. Twisting God's Word to justify' sin doesn't forgive sin. Only the truth that Jesus paid for sin wil justify us, for that truth is the power of salvation for everyone who believes.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Do you often forget the comfort of God's Word when you are hurting? How can you better hold to the teachings of Jesus and be set free?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that you may always hold to God's Word. Pray for strength to share with others the freedom which is found in the Bible.
