Faithful in Trial
READ: Revelation 2:10b
I never knew him, but I know that he was a kind, gentle, and loving person. My grandmother told me often about the grandfather I never knew. However, faith in the Lord was something he didn't have for a long time.
He went to church once in a while with my grandmother, but he didn't quite understand what it was all about. Still, he continued to go to church and question what church was.
"Be faithful even to the point of death and I will give you the crown of life." This man, my grandfather, was faithful—to his wife of only one year and, finally, to the Lord God whom he came to know only days before his death.
Was he faithful to the end? Yes, the confession he shared with my grandmother and mother was that of faith in the God he found and loved.
God tells us to be faithful and he will give us the crown of life. This passage simply states that if we believe, we will go to heaven. In life, we face many trials and temptations. In the face of all life's tests, God wants us to keep the faith in Him until He takes us home to be with Him.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Why does God allow us to be tested? Why should we not be afraid to face God? Why does God want us on His side?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that we keep our faith forever. Ask that God protects us from the devil's temptations. Thank God that He is still there for us.
