Prayer

READ: I Timothy 2:1-8

I remember one time that I needed to return a walkman to Best Buy. I had no way to get there and the warranty expired the next day. Luckily, I finally convinced my brother to take me there, and I got my walkman fixed. I remember how thankful I was that God gave me my brother. Have you ever been helped by someone so much that you thanked God for them? I’m sure you have.

Let me tell you another story. I never liked Bill Clinton. I don’t believe that he was a very good president, and I wonder why our Christian pastors wanted us to pray for him. Have you ever thanked God for someone you do not know, or even someone you may not like, because God wants you to? In I Timothy 2:1, God says to make prayer for everyone. Now you can think that He can’t honestly expect you to pray for everyone. After all, it doesn’t make sense to pray for someone you do not even know. But it does! The rest of the Scripture lesson states that God wants all men to be saved and that Jesus died for everyone.

Consequently, we should pray for them and their souls. So, next time you pray to God, pray not only for those people you know and like, but pray for everyone.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: How can I improve the way I pray? How do these verses affect me? How do these verses affect those around me?

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank God for the gift of prayer, and thank Him for hearing your prayers. Also, thank God for the people of the world, asking that their sins will be forgiven. Make special intercessions for those who especially need God.
