Independent?
Ephesians 2:8 is my own personal passage. It took me a while to understand why I chose this passage, but then I broke the verses down and began to understand it word for word and applied it to my own life.
The first thing I did in defining this verse was asking myself what grace really was. Grace is defined as an underserved love God shows us. The next step I took was defining faith. Faith is believing without seeing. This is a very serious love passage, because if it had not been for His grace, where would we be?
The reason I can apply this to my life is because I am very independent and I think I can do everything on my own. But, in reality, this is not true and this passage reminds me of this fact. If it had not been for God’s grace and love, we wouldn’t have the gift of eternal life.
Although, I am very independent, salvation is not something I can get on my own. I must depend on someone and I can depend on God and His promises. This verse has really helped me because now when I do something and it goes well, I have to give all credit to God, because without Him I can do nothing.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Where have you seen or experienced God’s grace at work in your life? Since God’s grace is already a gift to us, how can we ever be outside it? What do Christians have to boast about?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Thank the Lord for His gifts of grace and faith. Ask for the courage to boast about His love and the willingness to use my life as an example.
