Helter Skelter

READ: Luke 10:38-42
It was exam week for Maria. Maria was running around all scatter brained when Joe came up to her and asked what was wrong. Maria answered almost in tears, “Every teacher thinks that their class is the most important and between work, school, and sports I have no time. I just run around in a daze, sometimes not even knowing what is going on. How is it that everyone else can remain so calm in a time like this?”
Joe replied sympathetically, “It isn’t that they’re calm, they just take the time to reflect on what is going on. Sometimes we forget how important God’s gift of life is and we don’t take the time to look at all the wonderful things around us. We go from moment to moment, not recognizing its value.”
“I guess you are right. I just have to slow down a little,” said Maria.
Sometimes when life gets hectic, we lose sight of what is really important. When Martha got upset that Mary wasn’t helping to prepare for all the things that needed to be done, Jesus said to Martha, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42) Mary was taking the time to absorb all that she could from Jesus, using her time in life wisely. Not only was she using her earthly life wisely, but God was giving her spiritual life through the promises of Jesus - promises that lead to sins fully forgiven and life everlasting!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: When was the last time you stopped and actually realized what you are doing? How much do you value your earthly and spiritual lives? Do you ever get too busy to see what is going on around you? How can you change that?
PRAYER SUGGESTIONS: Pray that we take the time to see the blessings around us. Pray that our life doesn’t get too cluttered that we forget who we are and our Lord who made us. Pray that we always look to God every day, not just when we need help.
